Resolution Commending the Loudoun Board of Supervisors for Rejecting Higher Taxes

WHEREAS, the Loudoun County Republican Committee recognizes that two of the basic principles of sound government are fiscal responsibility and limited powers; and

WHEREAS, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors is considering the county budget for FY 2013; and

WHEREAS, the tax burden imposed by the previous Loudoun County Board of Supervisors on county residents and businesses has been excessive; and

WHEREAS, the Loudoun County Republican Committee opposes raising the tax burden on either individuals or businesses, and supports reducing the tax burden by at least 5%; and

WHEREAS, the county currently carries enough debt; and

WHEREAS, the Loudoun County Republican Committee believes that the Loudoun County government is too large, inefficient, and spends too much money; and

WHEREAS, the equalized property tax rate is $1.27; and

WHEREAS, the County Administrator has, for the first time in recent memory, proposed pay increases based on merit for Loudoun County Government employees; and

WHEREAS, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, in keeping with conservative principles, gave guidance to the County Administrator to produce budget proposals at the equalized tax rate, and 5% below the equalized tax rate; and

WHEREAS, the Loudoun County School Board cut over $13M from the budget proposed by Superintendent of the Loudoun County Public Schools;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Loudoun County Republican Committee commends the current Board of Supervisors for practicing the commonsense conservative principles on which they campaigned by giving budgetary guidance which will not raise taxes, and supports that the Board of Supervisors take every opportunity to reduce county taxes by at least 5%; and be it further,

RESOLVED, that the Loudoun County Republican Committee commends the current Loudoun County School Board for their rigorous review of the school budget; and be it further,

RESOLVED, that the Loudoun County Republican Committee commends the County Administrator for ensuring that pay increases for County Employees will be based on merit and not automatic; and be it further;

RESOLVED, that the Loudoun County Republican Committee recommends that any realized surplus at the end of a fiscal year be used to pay down the County debt; and be it further,

RESOVED, that the Loudoun County Republican Committee believes the Loudoun County government can and must operate more efficiently; and be it further,

RESOLVED, that the chairman of the Loudoun County Republican Committee shall cause copies of this resolution to be disseminated to the members of the Board of Supervisors and to the media.
