Resolution Calling on Loudoun Board of Supervisors to Reject Higher Taxes

WHEREAS, the Loudoun County Republican Committee recognizes that two of the basic principles of sound government are fiscal responsibility and limited powers,

WHEREAS, the Loudoun Board of Supervisors will consider the county budget for FY 2012 in February

WHEREAS, the tax burden imposed on county residents and businesses is excessive,

WHEREAS, the county currently carries enough debt,

WHEREAS, the Loudoun County Republican Committee believes that the Loudoun County government is too large, inefficient, and spends too much money,

WHEREAS, education reform is crucial to our nation's future and the Governor has submitted an agenda for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of Virginia education,

WHEREAS, the school budget is over two-thirds of the total Loudoun budget,

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Loudoun County Republican Committee recommends that any realized surplus at the end of a fiscal year be used to pay down the debt; and be it further


RESOLVED, that the Loudoun County Republican Committee opposes raising the tax burden on either individuals or businesses; and be it further


RESOVED, that in our current down economic environment the Loudoun County government can and must operate more efficiently and set better priorities; and be it further

RESOLVED, that the Loudoun County Republican Committee believes that in order to maintain our AAA bond rating it is imperative that we remain well under the current threshold debt levels established by the Board of Supervisors; and be it further

RESOLVED, that the Loudoun County Republican Committee recommends that the Board of Supervisors examine every possible way to make our county government leaner and more efficient through restructuring, privatization where possible, consolidating departments where duplication of effort exists, and all other means to keep spending to a minimum; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the chairman of the Loudoun County Republican Committee shall cause copies of this resolution to be disseminated to members of the Board of Supervisors, the School Board, and to the media.
