Republicans Choose John Whitbeck as 33rd Senate District Nominee

December 17, 2013

Nearly 550 Republicans gathered at a Mass Meeting Monday night and chose John Whitbeck as the nominee for the potential vacancy in the 33rd State Senate District.

"I congratulate John Whitbeck on his victory tonight," said Mark Sell, Chairman of the 33rd Senate Legislative District Republican Committee. "John is a father, a small business owner, and an active member of the community and just the kind of person residents of the 33rd Senate District need representing their interests in Richmond."

"I want to thank Ron Meyer for his gracious motion to nominate John by acclamation," Sell continued. "Ron ran a strong and energetic campaign and his action tonight shows that Republicans are united in our effort to win this seat."

Mark Herring, currently the 33rd District Senator, has been certified by the Virginia State Board of Elections as the winner in the Attorney General race. Mark Obenshain has petitioned for a recount. Pending the recount there may be a vacancy in the 33rd Senate District and a special election to fill the vacancy.
