
Alex grew up in a suburb of Flint, Michigan, the son of immigrants who fled Iraq in the 70’s. As a young boy, Alex worked to help his family-owned convenience store business. Following his graduation from the University of Michigan in 1991, Alex served for 23 years as an Army officer retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He completed tours of duty with the 10th Mountain Division and 1st Infantry Division and has deployed for field work in Haiti, Bosnia, Kosovo, and Iraq. Alex is a subject matter expert in Middle Eastern Information Technology and Communications.
Following his career in the military, Alex supported national security programs under several intelligence and law enforcement agencies. His current position is with a major defense contractor located in northern Virginia where he is developing growth initiatives focused on the intelligence community and special operations.
Alex’s congressional candidacy is rooted in a rich background of military leadership, technical leadership, private sector experience, and community service. The cornerstone of Alex’s campaign is grounded in making Virginia’s 10th district and our nation SAFER in every aspect of our lives. S.A.F.E.R. is Alex’s acronym representing his commitment to the voters of the 10th District.
